Antennas and TEM Cells:
for TEMPEST and electromagnetic compatibility testing

Listed below are the suppliers of antennas used in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing. These include active rod antennas, passive rod antennas for electric field testing, dipole antennas, biconical antennas, log spiral antennas, log periodic antennas, and horn antennas for plane wave testing, loop antennas for magnetic field testing. Except for the active antennas, which are used for detecting emissions only, most of these antennas will be useable both as transmitting antennas ( for susceptibility testing) and as receiving antennas for emissions testing. Besides standard antennas, some of these sites may offer special devices such as Helmhotz coils, Transverse Electromagnetic Mode (TEM) cells, and Gigahertz transverse electromagnetic mode (GTEM) cells. Helmholtz coils are a pair of parallel coils used to generate strong magnetic fields in a small area for susceptibilty testing. TEM cells consist of a waveguide that opens into a small chamber, usually lined with microwave absorbing material at one end. The equipment under test (EUT) is placed in the chamber and either a transmitter or a receiver is connected at the other. No separate antenna is needed. The chamber itself is the antenna.
