NOTES on Fiber optic devices in electromagnetic compatibility design.
Less well-known is the fact that fiber optic devices can be
be quite useful in solving difficult
test setup problems
in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing.
Fiber Optics can be handy tools to have in an EMI/EMC testing laboratory,
in a shielded anechoic chamber, or in an FCC or Industry Canada approved open area test site (OATS)
Fiber optics, fiber optic links, and other fiber optic devices
can solve electromagnetic compatibility problems quickly and effectively
when they are used to replace traditional shielded cables.
They can eliminate secondary ground paths, break ground loops,
preclude signal line conduction problems, and eliminate other electromagnetic interference (EMI)
phenomena that bedevil equipment and system designers.
