NOTES ON D.C. POWER LINE FILTERS:
Power line filters are devices that block undesireable radio signals from coming into or out of your product through its power cable. Power line filters do this while allowing the intended current, in this case direct current, to pass through relatively unimpeded. D.C. power line filters are "Low Pass" filters. This means that they block alternating currents and allow direct current and some low frequencies to pass through. Power line filters are analog, not digital, devices. They do not suddenly cut off above a certain frequency. Instead, as frequencies get higher and higher, the filters will "attenuate" (reduce) them more and more, eventually reaching a maximum amount. This maximum amount of attenuation can reach a factor of 10,000 to 1 or more. Power line filters are rated by the amount of current they can handle. Some can only handle 1 ampere of current, others can handle 30 amperes or more. If you try to pass 30 amperes through a 1 ampere filter, the filter can heat up and short out or cause a fire. It is important to consult the manufacturer before selecting a power line filter for your product. Many of the manufacturers on this page have technically knowledgeable sales people for this purpose.
